The Council does not require any fees from you when you submit an application for a Building Consent.
Fees will be invoiced once the consent has been approved/granted.
Building Consent fees are set to cover processing time, the cost of any external specialists required to examine aspects of the application, and the inspections expected to be required during the course of the project. Once you pay the invoice, the consent will be issued.
Fees charged by the Council for building consents are:

Administration - $106.00 per consent

Processing - $118.00 per hour

Inspections - $118.00 per inspection

Code Compliance Certificate - $104.50
The following estimates are provided to give you an idea of what your building consent might cost

New dwelling - $2000 + levies

Garage - $600

Inbuilt fire - $400
-
Freestanding fire - $300
Where new water and/pr sewer connections are required, these will be charged at cost.
In addition to the fees/charges by the Council, the Council also collects the following levies on all building work valued at over $20,000:

BRANZ levy - $1 per $1,000 of value

DBH levy - $1.97 per $1,000 value
Fees and charges are accurate as at October2010 and are inclusive of GST. Fees are reviewed each year as part of the annual planning process.
