General Waste

What I can put in my rubbish bin:

The rubbish bin is for domestic waste that cannot be recycled.

What I can't put in my rubbish bin:

We encourage recycling so please don't put recyclables or green waste in your rubbish bins. The following items also should not be put in your rubbish bin:

  • Hot ashes, explosives or flammable material
  • Greenwaste or any other organic matter
  • Dirt
  • Concrete
  • Liquid or hazardous waste
  • Large or bulky objects
  • Sharp objects or material capable of puncturing the bin

Hazardous Waste
Domestic Hazardous Waste (paints, batteries) under 10 litres can be left at Hawera, Waverley, Opunake, Eltham Transfer Stations. Callers with queries regarding disposal of special or possibly hazardous wastes should be advised to call Taranaki Regional Council during working hours

Collection
Rubbish bins are collected once a week (refer to the collection times below).

All rubbish bins need to be out at the kerbside by 7.30am on the morning of collection.
The wheelie bins must face the kerb and be placed at least half a metre away from any other bins. No waste is to be left next to or on top of the bins. This waste will not be picked up by our contractor.
