As of Wednesday 1 February 2012, SPARC, the government agency responsible for sport and recreation, is changing its name to Sport New Zealand (Sport NZ). There’s no change to what they do – it’s still their aim to get more Kiwis into sport, more kids into sport and, through High Performance Sport New Zealand, more winners on the world stage. The new name - Sport NZ - is all encompassing of sport and recreation activities, and recreation remains a key focus for Sport NZ.
There are two Sport NZ Rural Travel Fund funding rounds in 2012. One round opens Monday 5 March 2012 and closes Friday 13 April 2012 (for winter sports). The other round opens Monday 10 September 2012 and closes on Friday 12 October 2012 (for summer sports).
