There are approximately 5,000 dogs registered in the South Taranaki District of which approximately 3,100 are rural and approximately 1,900 are urban. The Council operates a 24 hour animal control service. Council Officers are authorised to issue infringement notices, and are responsible for providing information and advice on dogs.
