Adopt A Dog Scheme

This is a scheme the South Taranaki District Council runs in conjunction with the district pound to help with the rehousing of pets.

Prospective owners can either call into the pound, or pop into Council, and leave their details and the type of pet they would like to own. Each time a dog comes into the pound, the list is checked and prospective owners are called. Putting your name on the list does not mean you have an obligation to house the animal - just come in and have a look and see if they suit you and your family.

By doing this we are able to match suitable pets with suitable owners and rehouse many more animals than we have been able to in the past.

If you are interested in getting your name on the list, email

Please make sure you remember to include your contact details.
