Similar to Campbell Lane, Butcher’s Lane will create another attractive pedestrian thoroughfare this time from High Street to the Napier Street Carpark.
Located beside the Grubi Arcade, the building which has been empty for some time has previously been, amongst other things, a butchery, fruit and vege shop, wine bar and hot bread shop.
The name Butcher’s Lane was initially used to identify the building but the name just stuck.
The project involves demolishing the old, empty two storey building on High Street, to create an attractive pedestrian thoroughfare which will be themed around the building’s earlier use as a butchery. A metal rail that zig-zags its way down the lane will allow hanging features including moveable wooden panelling and lighting. In addition paving, trees and planters will add colour and vibrancy.
As with Campbell Lane the aim for this project is to better connect the Napier Street Car Park with the main street retail area and improve use of the free, unrestricted parking that is available.
Demolition and physical work on the project will start later in the 2016 year.
