Scale Ship Regatta Labour Weekend

Scale Ship Regatta Labour Weekend

Tuesday, October 13, 2015

Model boats of all types and sizes will ply the King Edward Park waters at Labour weekend, 24 and 25 October, in Hawera’s annual Scale Ship Regatta.

The regatta has been running since 1996 and the event continues to grow, with 'captains' travelling from throughout the North Island to take part.

Warships, tugboats and racing yachts are among the scale ships operated from the lake edge with sophisticated remote control units. As always, they will be keen to share the secrets of building and operating the model craft with spectators.

South Taranaki events co-ordinator Jody Bloor expects a big turnout of spectators over the weekend.

“This is a great relaxing weekend with a large variety of scale ships being sailed on the lake,” she says. “It’s a brilliant opportunity to bring the family and have a picnic in picturesque King Edward Park while taking in the skill of the ‘sailors’.”

“The continual growth of this event encourages more people come to our fantastic district. It’s a positive experience for potential seafarers of all ages," she continues.

The Scale Ship regatta is a fixture on the South Taranaki calendar every Labour Weekend.
