The challenge is on again this year to find the top school in the Taranaki Secondary School Literary Challenge.
Have you got a team together? It’s time to get reading “the best teen and nonfiction books published in New Zealand in the past year”.
Look out for the list of finalist books in the 2011 New Zealand Post Children’s Book Awards announced on 22 February 2011.
This year’s judges are Ruth McIntyre, children’s bookshop co-owner and former journalist; William Taylor, writer and former school principal; and children’s librarian, Dee Brooker assisted by Te Reo Advisor, Paora Tibble
So what books are in this year’s lineup?
This year’s judges say they are on the look-out for books with a ‘wow factor’; those that stand out from the rest and are set to become future classics.
Judging panel convenor, Ruth McIntyre, said, "So far we have been delighted by the high standard of many of the books submitted, something which will make our task of whittling the nominations down to five in each category even more challenging.”
"There is a wonderfully varied selection, with something to appeal to the tastes of all readers, including adults. The books cover a wide range of topics and we note a large number of sequels and retellings of old favourites with a uniquely Kiwi twist," said McIntyre.
