21st annual Scale Ship Regatta sets sail this Labour Weekend
Monday, October 16, 2017
It’s ‘Ships Ahoy!’ as the annual Scale Ship Regatta takes place at the boating lake at King Edward Park in Hawera this weekend (Saturday 21 and Sunday 22 of October).
Celebrating 21 years of the event, model boats of all types and sizes will sail the waters including warships, tugboats and racing yachts operated from the lake edge with sophisticated remote control units.
South Taranaki events co-ordinator Jody Bloor expects a big turnout of spectators over the weekend.
“As well as the model ships, thanks to the Friends of Hawera Parks, there will be a couple extra things for children on the Saturday from 10am - 1pm to enjoy, including face painting and making origami boats to race,” says Jody.
“It’s also a brilliant opportunity to bring the family along to have a picnic in picturesque King Edward Park which is being prepared for the PowerCo Taranaki Garden Spectacular the following week,” says Jody.
“The continual growth of this event encourages more people to come to our fantastic district. It’s a positive experience for potential seafarers of all ages," she said.
