Free Computer Classes On Offer

A series of free short computer courses for those with no or very little computer skills are being offered at Hawera LIbraryPlus on Tuesdays from 9.30 – 11.30 am.
The courses, called Stepping Up will start on Tuesday 6 May with computer basics including logging on, the mouse and keyboard and basic troubleshooting. Other modules include introduction to email, Microsoft Word and social media such as Facebook.
Programme coordinator and customer services librarian Kaye Lally says the courses are open to anyone and enrolments can be made at the library by phoning 0800 111 323 and asking for Hawera LibraryPlus, or by going online at http://steppingup.org.nz
“We know there are many people in the community who don’t yet have the skills to join in the digital world. We are very excited that people now have access to these free Stepping Up courses to help them on the way ,” says Kaye.
In addition Computers in Homes are also be offering a Hawera based course in May. This course provides twenty hours of computer instruction, plus a computer and subsidised internet. Further information on this course is available from Christina on 06 764 8049 or text 027 699 7429.
Both Stepping Up and Computers in Homes are programmes devised and presented by the 20/20 Communications Trust in association with the Taranaki e-Learning Trust to help reduce the digital divide.
