Nukumaru Station Road Extension Update
Friday, December 21, 2018
This notice is to update you on where things are at with the Nukumaru Station Road Extension Project.
As you may be aware after the 2015 floods the Council has been working on building an alternative road to Wai-inu Beach via Nukumaru Station Road. This will provide security of access, particularly to Waitōtara Freezing Works and the Wai-inu Beach community, if the Limeworks Bridge is ever washed out again.
In July this year the Council received permission from the Environment Court to proceed with the road extension project.
Since July, with the assistance of a specialist property consultancy company, ‘The Property Group’ we have been preparing and negotiating land acquisition with relevant landowners along the new route. This work is ongoing.
All going well we hope to have completed this process and have agreements in place by the end of February 2019.
We have support for the project to proceed from Kiwi Rail, NgaatiRuaitihapu of Ngaa Rauru, the Department of Conservation and Heritage New Zealand.
During this time we are also continuing to work on securing funding from the New Zealand Transport Agency (NZTA).
The tender documents for designing and building the road have all been prepared and once the land acquisition process has been completed we will go straight out to tender. If we are able to complete the land acquisition process by the end of February we expect the tender process and appointment of a contract will be completed before June 2019.
