Total Fire Ban for Patea Ward
Friday, March 28, 2014
Taranaki Principal Rural Fire Officer, Nigel Dravitzki, announced today that from midnight tonight (Friday 28 March 2014) the lighting of fires in the open air is prohibited within the rural areas of the Patea Ward of the South Taranaki District Council.
A prohibited fire season means a total fire ban is in place and all current permits are suspended. The onlyexceptions are gas fired barbeques and any unitthat has a fully enclosed fire box.
The rest of the Taranaki Region remains in an open fire season (apart from the land area under the control of the Eltham Drainage Committee which has a year round Restricted Fire Season in place).
Mr Dravitzki says all residents need to be aware that if they light a fire during a prohibited fire season, the full costs of extinguishing these fires will be charged to the property owner.
These restrictions shall remain in force until rescinded by a further public notice.
