Thursday, October 04, 2012

Initial site work for the new Waverley courts gets underway in Aotea Park on Monday.

The synthetic multipurpose courts will be the size of three tennis courts with markings for netball, practice hockey and a practice volley board.

Three mobile tennis nets and two sets of netball goals will be bought. Waverley Lions Club is helping with the initial site preparation, work is being carried out by local contractors and Supergreene from Hawke’s Bay will be laying the turf.

Funding for this community project has come from the South Taranaki District Council Urban Improvement Fund, Powerco Wanganui Trust, Southern Trust, Whanganui Community Foundation, NZCT, Southern Trust, McBroom Estate, Waverley Health Watch, Patea Community Board, Waverley Chamber of Commerce as well as fundraising shows and community pledges.

A final courts fundraiser is being held on Tuesday 30 October. An Arts on Tour Show Do or Di? from 7.30pm at the Waverley Community Centre.

Tickets are $25 and on sale at E.C. Dallisons, Waverley (cash or cheque only).

Remember those musical divas, Doris Day and Dinah Shore and their chart topping songs of the Billboard era? Linn, Anna and Hersh have great fun singing the songs in a non-stop presentation that spoofs the television game show format of the 50’s. With Herschel Herscher as game show host, Do or Di offers two hours of audience participation and prizes interspersed with outrageous musical and comedic talent  - expect jazzy arrangements, three-part harmony, piano and accordion solos. Which diva was the hit maker? Attend the show and find out.
