2011 A and P Show Parade All Go
Tuesday, September 13, 2011
One of the longest-running events in the South Taranaki calendar has been guaranteed a repeat run this year when the Egmont A&P Show Parade will take to Hawera’s main street on Friday 18 November.
Generations of South Taranaki kids have participated in, or looked on from within the throngs of people who cram the streets to watch as the parade makes its way through the heart of the Hawera CBD.
A tradition and institution for many South Taranaki families, the parade will again this year celebrate the town’s 128th year long history of holding the biggest show of its kind in the province.
Show secretary Celine Filbee says the future of the parade is secure and schools, clubs and businesses can all start putting their creative thinking caps on to come up with the prize-winning floats to compliment this year’s “Fighting Fit” theme.
“The major parade sponsor is the Fred and Eunice Rodie Charitable trust, donating $2500 for the supreme float winner.
“Three other category winners, for best school or preschool, best business and best club, will each receive $500.”
The Southern Netball Club have stepped up as this year’s parade organising committee and member Andrea Te Puni says the enthusiasm for this parade is already growing.
Andrea says that entry forms will be available from Thursday 6 October at the Hawera I-Site on High Street, under the Water Tower.
Association president David Turner is fully supportive of the netball club’s involvement and organisation of the show parade and has total confidence that the event will be a huge success.
