38% drop in serious dog incidents
Saturday, June 01, 2013
Over the last three years there has been a 38% drop in serious dog incidents (ie dog attacks, dogs rushing or threatening) from 149 in 2009 to 92 in 2012.
Council’s regulatory services manager Jim Single says the Council has an attitude of zero tolerance towards dangerous dogs.
Council has successfully prosecuted several owners with dangerous dogs, with their punishments ranging from fines to community service to jail time in one case.
And the latest figures up to April showed the trend continuing as the drop in serious incidents was near 50%.
