Arcade Closed for Makeover

The Arcade between Hawera’s High Street and Cornish’s Carpark will be closed from Firday 22 March until Friday 29 March to allow contractors to complete an upgrade.

The $25,000 upgrade is a joint project between the South Taranaki District Council (STDC) and Bizlink Hawera and will improve the lighting and tidy up the thoroughfare. Alternative access will be available through Dimocks 100% Appliances & Furniture.

STDC economic development manager, Claire Symes, says the project includes reroofing the arcade and installing new skylights, painting and providing additional lighting. Artwork from the Town Square which was funded by the Hawera Community Board will also be installed in the Arcade after the painting has been completed.

Bizlink Hawera Chairman, Andy Beccard, is pleased the association is involved in this upgrade project.

“The project has been identified as part of Bizlink’s Landscape and Design programme that aims to improve elements of the town’s main street area to ensure it is clean, graffiti-free and attractive,” he says.

“Working collaboratively with the Council on image improvement ideas such as this are key for being able to market our town as a great place to work and shop,” says Mr Beccard.
