E-Coli Health Warning for Eltham Swimming Spot

Friday, March 03, 2017

South Taranaki District Council (STDC) regulatory manager, Doug Scott has today issued a health warning for the Waingongoro River swimming hole at Eltham Presbyterian Camp.

“Routine sampling by the Taranaki Regional Council has found high levels of Escherichia coli (E.coli) at the river and visitors to the river should not collect or eat fish and plant life or come into contact with the water,” says Mr Scott.

“Keep your pets away from the water too as they can also be affected,” he says.

The Council has erected warning signs at the river.

Further water samples will be taken, and the warning signs will be removed when the levels are considered safe.
