Hawera comedians return to Real NZ
Tuesday, February 15, 2011
Popular comedians, Ben Hurley and Steve Wrigley will be performing a two hour comedy extravaganza at TSB Hub, Hawera on Saturday 26 February.
The show, hosted by Vaughan King (Winner ‘Best MC’ at NZ Comedy Guild Awards 2010) is part of the trio’s Real NZ Tour.
For Ben and Vaughan it is truly a return to real NZ as both hail from Hawera.
Star of New Zealand’s highest rating comedy show ‘7 Days’, Ben is one of the country’s stand-up comedy success stories. Winner of the two biggest comedy awards in New Zealand (2004 Oddfellows Billy T Award, 2008 Fred Dagg Award), Hurley is not only a headline act in NZ but also on the highly competitive UK circuit.
The three comedians go a long way back and have been packing themselves into tiny cars and touring the large and small towns of New Zealand since late 2001.
“We started out in Wellington,” says Wrigley. “Hurley, King and I would sit around a table deconstructing each other’s sets, talking shop till the wee smalls.”
Wrigley believes it was those conversations that shaped them into professional stand ups.
Ben helped to bring an exciting new program to New Zealand TV screens with the now immensely popular comedy panel show, ‘7 Days’. Steve joined the production in Episode 4 and is now a regular feature, with Vaughan working both as a panelist and behind the scenes of this top rating and riotous half hour of comedy.
In 2011 things have come full circle. Hitting the road like they used to, Steve, Ben and Vaughan will see a decade long relationship culminate in their ‘Real New Zealand Tour.’
Unlike most live tours this road trip will bypass the major centres of Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch, starting in Tauranga, then Hurley and King’s home town of Hawera and then heading off to Hamilton, Kerikeri, Leigh, Napier, Upper Hutt, Greymouth, Westport, Timaru, Dunedin and Gore.
The show promises a great night of entertainment. “It’s more than just a laugh” says Hurley “there is a feeling at a live comedy night that you can’t describe.”
Tickets are available from the Hawera i-SITE (Information Centre).
