Hicks Park Fields

If the grass on the main field at Hicks Park is looking like its dead, don’t panic…it’s meant to be.
This is all part of the remedial work being undertaken to fix the debris and drainage problems on the No.1 and No.5 fields. These areas have been fenced and the grass has been sprayed with weed killer in preparation for further work. Once the grass has died, the topsoil will be sieved to remove debris, then re-laid, levelled and re-grassed.
No. 1 field will be done first, then No. 5 field. At the same time work is being done on the supplementary drainage to the No.1 field and under-field drainage to the No.5 field. The intention is that the fields will be grassed in late February/early March which means the fields won’t be ready to be played on for some time after the seeding is done to allow sufficient grass growth to occur. This will result in some disruption to the start of the rugby and rugby league seasons but both clubs are aware of this and are making alternative plans. While work will proceed as quickly as possible progress will be dependent on the weather.
