A big name in comedy, Chopper, is set to headline the now notorious annual Big Hawera Comedy Night in October.

Former local lad, Ben Hurley, brings back a mate or two every year to put on a show.

"It's becoming a tradition that comedians love to be a part of,” says Hurley. “The annual Hawera comedy night has reached such legendary status that we are attracting overseas acts! Chopper fills large theatres on his tours so it's a really great to have him come to Hawera."

South Taranaki District Council events co-ordinator Jody Bloor says that this year there will be one show only.

“Due to Chopper being such a big name, we have decided to do one large show down on court three,” says Jody Bloor, STDC events coordinator. “It will make for a great atmosphere!”

The night will once again be presided over by MC Hurley. Vaughan King will be the supporting act for Chopper.

"Vaughan is well known around here and we haven’t seen him for a few years, so it will be great to have him back,” says Jody.

The show is R16 and will be on Saturday 14 October.

Tickets will go on sale at TSB Hub, Camberwell Road, Hawera, on Thursday 31 August. Tickets cost $50 each or book a table of 10 for $450. You can also email jody.bloor@stdc.govt.nz (after 31 August) to reserve a table or book tickets.
