Mayoral Relief Fund set up to aid Christchurch

A Mayoral Relief Fund has been set up by South Taranaki District Council to raise money for those who were affected by the Christchurch Earthquake earlier this week.

Since the devastating quake, Council has received many phone calls from concerned public wanting to know how they can help.

Council is working very closely with Taranaki Civil Defence Emergency Management which advised that the best thing the public can give at this point is money.

“Over the past few years South Taranaki has received help from other districts during difficult times and now it is our chance to help fellow New Zealanders in need,” says Mayor Dunlop. “It is our job to give what we can.”

People who want to give money can come into the Council’s Administration Building, the South Taranaki i-SITE Visitors Centre or to any local LibraryPlus and drop it off in one of the donation boxes, or over the counter if a receipt is needed. Another option is to deposit money straight into the Westpac Account 03 0647 0220100 02.

The South Taranaki District Council has also offered to send specialist staff such as building inspectors and trained welfare officers to help in the assessment and recovery of the region.
