New Scooter Track for Learners at Skate Park
Monday, November 30, 2015
Construction of a scooter track for learners started today (Monday 30 Nov) at the Hawera Skatepark on Albion Street.
The project, funded by the Hawera Community Boardis aimed at giving younger children a place to practice their scooter skills and fits with the Board’s aim of making the area a real family friendly space.
“The skatepark is one of the most popular facilities in town,” says Hawera Community Board chair, Fiona Hicks. “We recently funded the installation of seats and tables in the area and the new scooter track will make the area more attractive for younger children and those just learning,” she says.
Tom Smithers is the contractor building the track and the work is expected to take two weeks to complete. This should be just in time for the Skate Park Competition and Fun Day which is being be held at the Park on 13 December. The event, organised by the Council’s Community Development Unit, will focus on encouraging everyone to ‘have a go’ and includes a skate competition run by Cheapskates from New Plymouth. The Police ‘Blue Light Pop Up Lounge’ and the Taranaki District Health Board will be at the event promoting smoke free and there will also be face painting and a bouncy castle.
