Nominations open for 2014 Youth to Work Awards
Wednesday, August 06, 2014
After a highly successful inaugural event last year – the Youth to Work awards are back and nominations are open!
The awards are a partnership between the South Taranaki District Council and the South Taranaki Mayor’s Taskforce for Jobs celebrating young people, employers, teachers and trainers for their outstanding efforts in the area of youth employment.
South Taranaki District Council community development advisor Peter Heard says it’s important for us to show young people they can have a range of successful careers in this district.
“Within five years young people will be in hot demand both globally and locally,” says Mr Heard. “Recent population forecasting shows that within 18 years 62% of Taranaki’s population will be aged 65 years or older.”
Mr Heard is also eager to hear from employers and others who want to offer opportunities for youth. “Imagine vibrant towns with engaged young people – that’s what this project is all about,” he says.
“These awards can take place because of the amazing support from the South Taranaki District Council, Feats, Paraninihi Ki Waitotara (PKW), WITT and our principle sponsor, Fonterra.”
Fonterra General Manager Operations Lower North Island Scott Walls says Fonterra is proud to be the principle sponsor of the Awards.
“Encouraging our young people to up-skill and seek local employment will drive the future success of our region,” says Mr Walls.
The awards will be presented by Mayor Ross Dunlop on the evening of Tuesday 22 October at TSB Hub.
