Nominations sought for Hawera-Tangahoe Community Board
Wednesday, August 09, 2017
Nominations are now open for a Hawera-Normanby subdivision seat on the Hawera-Tangahoe Community Board following the recent passing of Craig Hornby.
Electoral Officer, Dale Ofsoske, says the vacancy left by Mr Hornby means a by-election needs to be held for the Hawera Community Board. Nominations opened yesterday (Wednesday 9 August) and close at noon on Wednesday 6 September.

To be eligible to stand for election, a candidate must be enrolled as a Parliamentary elector (anywhere in New Zealand); and a New Zealand citizen as well as two nominations from electors from within the area.
"If only one candidate stands for the vacancy, assuming they meet the eligibility criteria, they will automatically be elected to the Community Board," says Mr Ofsoske. "However should there be more than one candidate, then an election will be held by postal vote," he says. "If an election is needed, voting documents will be posted to all eligible electors from Wednesday 11 October and a three week voting period will start from then until noon Friday 3 November 2017."
"Electors can post their completed voting document back to the electoral officer using a pre-paid envelope sent with the voting document. A polling place for issuing special voting documents and for receiving completed voting documents will also be available at the Council’s Administration Building on Albion Street, Hawera," says Mr Ofsoske.
Preliminary results will be known as soon as they are available on the afternoon, Friday 3 November 2017 and will be available on Council’s website.
