Patea Domain Pool Meeting
Friday, January 28, 2011
Plans have been drawn up for a proposed new pool complex at the Patea Domain on the corner of Egmont and Surrey streets.
The Patea Pool Relocation Committee will be presenting these to the community with estimated costs on Monday 14 February, 2011 at 7pm at the Hunter Shaw Building, Egmont St, Patea.
South Taranaki District Council community development advisor, Claire Symes, says real community support has to be demonstrated to potential funders for this project to proceed.
“The community is invited to come along to this meeting to find out more about this project, and let us know if this is what they want,” says Mrs Symes.
The Council allocated $613,000 to upgrade the Patea Pool in 2009/10 and consultation was undertaken with pool users on how this funding should be spent. During planning for the upgrade it was suggested by some members of the community that a new complex sited at the Patea Domain should be investigated.
The Patea Pool Relocation Committee was formed and it has held numerous meetings to develop the proposal with Council staff and an architect.
Mrs Symes says if a new complex was to be built at the Domain additional funding would need to be raised on top of the Council’s contribution.
To accommodate the new complex in the Domain Park area some trees would also need to be removed and the existing basketball court would disappear while a small playground would remain.
