Scale Ship Regatta sets sail over Labour Weekend
Thursday, October 04, 2018
All aboard for the annual Scale Ship Regatta taking place at King Edward Park’s boating lake in Hāwera over Labour weekend (Saturday 20 and Sunday 21 October).
Celebrating 22 years of the event, model boats, warships, tugboats and racing yachts of all types and sizes will sail the waters from the lake edge by remote control units.
South Taranaki community events co-ordinator, Liesl Davidson, expects a big turnout of participants and spectators over the weekend.
“As well as the model ships, thanks to the Friends of Hāwera Parks, on Saturday from 10am - 1pm there will be a couple of extra things for children to enjoy, including face painting, making origami boats to race or, for the adults, there will be plants and coffee for sale,” says Liesl.
“This is a good opportunity to get the family in to King Edward Park which is looking its best in preparation for the PowerCo Taranaki Garden Festival the following week,” says Liesl. “So make the most of it and bring along a picnic to enjoy while watching the boats”.
