Time to Register Your Dog
Wednesday, May 01, 2013
Dog registration time is approaching and if you are a dog owner you will need to have your beloved pooch registered by 1 July.
This year the fees in South Taranaki District remain the same as last year.
The fees are as follows:
Urban (town) dog $139
Urban (town) de-sexed $110
Selected Owner $50
Rural (first 2 dogs) $50
Rural (3 or more dogs) $40
All dogs over the age of three months must be registered. It is an offence to own an unregistered dog and failing to register your dog will result in a $300 fine and your dog may be impounded.
Other Payment Option
If you wish to pay off your dog registration in advance, you will need to begin regular payments now, however full payment must be completed by 1 July or a 50 percent penalty will be applied.
Since July 2006 it has been compulsory to microchip your dog. A working farm dog may be exempt but requires the owner to fill out an exemption form declaring the purpose of work of the dog.
Micro-chipping provides a simple, lifelong way of identifying dogs and linking them to their owner, making dog control easier and more effective. It also makes it easier to return lost or stolen dogs to their owners.
A 50 percent penalty will be applied to all late registrations, so to avoid this, please have your dog registered by 1 July. Please note that paying off your dog registration past 31 July will also attract a penalty.
