Top New Zealand reggae group Three Houses Down will be the major attraction at Patea’s Paepae in the Park on Waitangi Day next year.
The 10-piece roots, rock and reggae band will share the bill with Patea Maori Club and 14 other entertainers for the town’s biggest event of the year.
Three Houses Down scooped top honours at the sixth annual Pacific Music Awards in May this year, taking out the coveted Best Pacific Music Album for Break Out and Best Pacific Song with Kanikapila.
Paepae in the Park was being organized by a committee of 12 that applied for funding and began working toward next year’s event as soon as this year’s was over, member Elaine Powell said.
The day attracts people from all over the North Island. As well as entertainment, there will be food and craft stalls all day at Memorial Park, in Patea’s main street.
“It’s something that we are really proud of,” Mrs Powell said.
