Waverley Multipurpose Court Update
Thursday, December 15, 2011
Funding is coming in for the multipurpose court project in Waverley’s Aotea Park with the Powerco Wanganui trustees approving a $50,000 grant and the Whanganui Community Foundation allocating $15,000 but this has to be matched dollar for dollar through community fundraising.
To date our community fundraising efforts have included $3200 raised through shows and $2685 through a community pledge scheme which 19 individuals, families and community groups have contributed to. Pledge forms are still available at the Waverley Library Plus.
The total estimated cost of the project is $186,340 and the remaining amount required to be raised by the community $55,000. Funding applications are being submitted to the Pelorus Trust and Southern Trust but for these applications to be successful there needs to be a demonstration of community support that this project is wanted by the community.
A meeting will be held on Tuesday 24 January, 5.30pm at the Waverley Community Centre to look at other fundraising ideas so we can make this project a reality. All welcome.
