Taranaki power cuts
Severe weather has caused further power cuts in Taranaki overnight.
Yesterday a 7.5 magnitude earthquake centred near Hanmer Springs cut supply to around 13,000 customers in the region. The majority of these properties had power back on by 5pm.
Strong winds overnight resulted in power cuts in Hawera, Inglewood, Opunake, Eltham, Stratford, Okato, Manaia, Kaponga, Rahotu and Urenui.
Powerco Network Coordination Manager Dean Stevenson said field crews are working to restore supply to the 1700 affected customers.
He reminded people to stay well clear of lines and call Powerco’s emergency number on 0800 272 727.
