Nighttime + Baddies = great family fun!
Xrace is back again after an extremely successful run last year – but this time with a twist!
Event organiser Shane Hooks says Hawera is hosting the only night-time XRACE event out of the 10 races held nationally.
“We thought that if there was one community that would embrace the concept of not only a mystery adventure race – but doing it at night, we knew straight away it had to be Hawera”
“This is just massive,” says Mr Hooks. “We have really wanted to hold a night event, where teams must complete their 10 XRACE challenges in the dark”
With the night time race, ‘baddies’ will be introduced. ‘Baddies’ are fit and enthusiastic local volunteers tasked with the challenge of capturing teams, using the darkness for cover. Teams must not only locate and complete the challenges in the dark, they must avoid the baddies at the same time.
XRACE is a national series of active events for families. Teams are made up of parents (or caregivers) racing in two-person teams with a child aged 7-12. Teams must race side-by-side. Complete all 10 challenges, beat the clock and all other teams with one team crowned Taranaki XRACE champions.
South Taranaki event coordinator Jody Bloor says there was a massive buzz about the event coming back this year.
“Last year we had 100 teams who competed to become XRACE champions, and we can only hope that the word has spread even more for next year’s event!”
XRACE Hawera will be taking place on Friday 21 March 2014 with the first teams leaving the starting chute at 8pm. Registrations are now open via the event website www.xrace.co.nz
