Deputy Mayor Phil Nixon has grown up with a great affinity to heritage and history having lived on land that saw the establishment of the Heretoa Mission by the Wesleyan Missionaries in 1842.
Jill Williams has been researching her family history for over 20 years. During this time she has held several positions with Hāwera Genealogy and this has lead her to being elected to the New Zealand Society of Genealogists’ Board. She enjoys sharing her knowledge with other genealogists who also enjoy digging up family stories.

Visit the Ōhawe Memorial Cairn and Cemetery with historian Jim Baker and hear some of the stories of those who are remembered here.
A bus is available from the South Taranaki i-SITE Visitor Centre. $10 per ticket and bookings are essential.
