Ben Hurley coming to Hawera
Friday, August 09, 2013
The now notorious annual Big Hawera Comedy Night is coming back to TSB Hub next month.
Former local boy Ben Hurley is bringing a stellar lineup of top class comedians with him this year – including Canadian international headliner JJ Whitehead.
Whitehead tours the world with his brand of laid back, slacker humour and is a huge star in his native Canada as well as in Britain and Australia.
"It's a real coup to get JJ on the bill. He's currently on a world tour and probably wasn't planning on coming to Hawera, so I called in a favour,” says Hurley. “It's his first time to Taranaki so we want to show him how much the town loves comedy. Last year was a sell-out so hopefully we can do the same this year."
Supporting JJ will be another former Hawera boy, Vaughan King. One of the busiest touring comedians in the country, Vaughan never fails to have audiences rolling in the aisles with his slightly skewed view on the world. Winner of "Best Show" at the Comedy awards and a smashing set on The New Zealand Comedy Gala has meant it's been a great year for Vaughan.
"Vaughan hasn't performed in Hawera for a few years so he's looking forward to getting back to his hometown and sharing his adventures with the faithful."
The night will once again be presided over by MC Hurley who says that last year's Hawera show was one of his favourites of the year.
"The Hawera crowd really came out in force last year, so much so that we had to come back. I'm bringing two of my favourite comedians in the whole world to town this year. Can't wait!"
The show is R16 and will be on Saturday 7 September . Tickets are on sale now at TSB Hub, $35 each or book a table of 10 for $300.
