Preseason game cancelled
Friday, June 17, 2011
Taranaki Rugby is disappointed to announce the cancellation of the pre-season fixture against Hawke’s Bay due to be played in Hawera on Wednesday 22 June.
Hawke’s Bay has elected to withdraw from the game at this late stage.
On learning this information late last night, Taranaki Rugby has endeavored to find a team to replace Hawke’s Bay. Despite our best efforts we have been unable to secure a team to play against in Taranaki next Wednesday.
It is hugely disappointing that this game will not be going ahead as planned. Taranaki Rugby would like to affirm that the cancellation of the game was in no part due to Taranaki being unable to fulfill its commitments to play. The cancellation was entirely driven by Hawke’s Bays withdrawal.
Taranaki Rugby would like to strongly assert the TSB Hub ground conditions played no role in the decision of Hawke’s Bay to withdraw.
Taranaki Rugby would like to recognise the time and effort invested by the South Taranaki District Council in organising the event. We understand the South Taranaki community will be disappointed the game is not going ahead as planned and we share their frustration. Taranaki Rugby looks forward to holding a game at the TSB Hub in Hawera as soon as is possible.
The TenderLink Taranaki v Bay of Plenty pre-season game will go ahead as planned on 29 June at the TET Stadium, Inglewood.
The TRFU is organising a fixture for TenderLink Taranaki to take place next week. It is most likely to be an away game. We will communicate details of this fixture as soon as it comes to hand.
