Summer is fast approaching and school’s nearly out – what do you do now?
Sign your children up for The Summer Beach Read — Te Pānui Onepū o te Raumati at your local Libraryplus and help them read their way around the world, solve mysteries, or just curl up in a corner of the garden with the latest Horrid Henry’s joke book.
Registrations open for the six week summer reading programme next week - on December 9.
Children aged 5-12 years have one week to come on in, sign up, and promise to read for at least 15 minutes every day. So make sure they don’t miss out!
Children participating get a colourful folder to record the books that they read. When they come back into the library to ‘report-in’ (share the books they have been reading with a staff member) they are given a small gift. Children who ‘report-in’ three or more times during the six weeks can attend a finale celebration, where they will receive a certificate and a book prize for completing the programme.
Be on the look out for other activities during the course of the programme, including visits from entertainers!
All of this is offered free of charge from South Taranaki LibraryPlus.
If you are going out of town for a holiday, report-in by phone, fax, or email! There’s other libraries around the country who are also part of The Summer Beach Read - and you can even report-in there.
Encouraging a love of books and reading is one of the most important things you can do to help develop your child’s literacy skills.
The Summer Beach Read — Te Pānui Onepū o te Raumati Summer Reading Programme is an incentive based reading programme which aims to encourage and promote books, libraries, and the fun of reading to children over the summer holidays.
So come on in and cool off with a good book this summer!
