Summer Sounds on the Sand 2019
Monday, December 24, 2018
Sounds on the Sand is returning to Ōpūnake this summer.
The South Taranaki District Council is bringing The Collective to Ōpūnake Beach on Saturday 12 January from 12.30pm.
To open the event, Te Kotahitanga will start with a captivating performance. Te Kotahitanga, meaning unity, is a South Taranaki based Māori Performing Arts group with an emphasis on Kapa Haka. They also deliver Mau rakau (Māori Weaponry) demonstrations, cooly choreographed traditional and contemporary dance pieces and stunning singing in both Te Reo Māori and English.
The Collective will then fill the beach with relaxed vibes as they play a variety of covers for all to enjoy.
The Collective is a newly formed Hawera-based band that has been together since last April and they are looking forward to performing in Ōpūnake.
“It is exciting to give a local band the opportunity to perform at this event,” says Community Events Co-ordinator Liesl Davidson. “The Collective plays a variety of covers from a wide range of genres including funk, soul and rock - so there is bound to be something for everyone”
There will also be a free bouncy castle for the kids, so pack a picnic and bring the whole family down to make an afternoon of it.
This free community event is proudly bought to you by the South Taranaki District Council.
