Party With the Aunties

Tihi Productions

A play that is more like going to a party than the theatre, with many colourful characters played by only three actors – abetted by their director - Party with the Aunties is a clever stage piece cunningly devised to carry off a family party atmosphere.

Three actors, Jamie McCaskill, Matariki Whatarau and Kura Forrester, play 12 memorable characters who gather to celebrate Uncle Angus’ 50th birthday party. Organiser, Maria (White), won’t let her husband, Angus (Whatarau) lift a finger on his special day, leaving him with little else to do but raise a Tui-gripping hand to whanau who have come from all over for his party.

This absorbing, uproariously funny and highly entertaining 80 minutes of theatre, is adapted for bars, restaurants, clubs, halls, marae and garages. Hailed for its brilliant character changes and seamless, spontaneous and original plotline, Party with the Aunties skilfully blends local references, recognisable characters with some mighty Kiwi party music.
