Welcome to Folk Stack, Taranaki’s boutique mini-fest that celebrates original music in a peace-loving folky vibe. Held off the beaten track in relaxed venues this twilight gathering presents a four stack of Taranaki-based acts each with a contemporary take on folk – the peoples music. Come soak up the vibe, warm your hippie heart and give peace another chance!
Folk Stack Ōhawe Beach: Sunday 31 January Folk Stack plays at Ōhawe Beach in South Taranaki.
The Decorative Poet
In a world premiere performance The Decorative Poet kicks off proceedings with quirky musical folk poetry and song. The lovely Brigitte will play you towards sunset with some of her quirky original songs on her trusty uke.
Rob Baker
Acoustic soloist Robby Baker bring shades of Neil Young through his easy listening and heartfelt vibe. Expect super-smooth, gold toned vocals, delicate string work and truly beautiful renditions of finely crafted originals and the odd classic folk-pop anthem. Robby is pretty humble about his appearance on the NZ television show X FACTOR. These days his music is all about magic moments of happiness with people he loves. True folkiness indeed.
GloryBox As GloryBox, Taranaki Diva’s Celine Filbee and Karen Clarke pack more onstage punch than pretty much any other acoustic duo you know. At full crank these feisty femme fatale are smokin’ hot with gutsy vocals, strong songs and evocative harmonies served over various strings and percussion. More fabulous than fancy these chicks are gonna get their Janice Joplin on and serve up a set of slick, folked up originals.
Turkey The Bird
Turkey the Bird is original Taranaki-grown folk music and New Zealand’s answer to Simon and Garfunkel. Andre Manella leads this bearded folk trio line-up with his super-catchy, harmonically-rich melodies and effortless original lyrics. Combined with Adrian Whelan (guitar, vocals and spoons!) and Sol Coulton (banjo and vocals), this trio will hit you with blended harmonies and toe-tapping rhythms.
