Manaia Demolition Work Progresses

Demolition work at the Manaia site continues to make steady progress, with the former Town Hall now completely removed and contractors focused on clearing and tidying the site. Work is also well underway on the demolition of the old sports complex building.

For many residents, watching the buildings come down has prompted fond memories of the countless events and celebrations held there over the years. From ballet recitals and cabaret evenings to movie screenings, weddings, concerts and after-match gatherings, the buildings have long played an important role in community life.

Throughout the project, preserving the history of the site has remained a priority. Selected timbers, seating and other materials have been recovered by specialist recyclers, while club memorabilia including trophies, photographs, honours boards and sponsor boards has been carefully removed and passed on to community members for safekeeping.

Although the buildings are being demolished, many materials will continue to serve the community. Timber flooring from the supper hall will be incorporated into the new facility, while chattels from both buildings have been retained for reuse in Council facilities. Concrete from the demolition will also be crushed and reused on site, helping to reduce waste and lower project costs.
