Become a Summer Lifeguard
We are seeking mature, responsible, community minded people interested in gaining their Lifeguard Qualification and supervising their local community pool this summer season. We operate pools in Eltham, Kaponga, Rāwhitiroa, Manaia, Pātea and Waverley. Our season begins 11 December 2023 and ends 11 March 2024. You will need to be available for the whole season.
The key responsibilities of the role are actively supervising swimmers and ensuring their safety, water testing and keeping the pool and facility clean. Your communication skills will be key to effectively running day to day pool operations alongside your coworkers.
You will need
- To swim 200m in under 6 minutes
- To be able to retrieve an object from the deepest part of the pool and complete other water competencies
- A great attitude and customer service skills
Full training is provided. You need to be able to attend the first aid course and lifeguard training at the Hāwera Aquatic Centre outlined on the dates below.

Lifeguard Course (PLSA) | Monday 25th September – Friday 29th September 9am – 3.30pm daily |
Once you have done the Lifeguard Course, you will need to undertake 20 hours inhouse poolside training to complete the qualification and gain a Pool Lifeguard Practicing Certificate.
