In Liminal Fibres, Taranaki artist Suzan Kostanich explores the concept of liminality, the threshold between one state and another where boundaries blur, identities shift and new possibilities emerge.
Working with fibre as both material and metaphor, Kostanich combines traditional techniques with contemporary experimentation to create works that exist between craft and fine art, structure and transformation, the familiar and the unknown. Through processes of weaving, knotting, layering and recomposition, she investigates themes of change, transition and becoming.
The exhibition invites viewers to consider fibre not simply as a decorative or utilitarian medium, but as a powerful means of exploring identity, movement and transformation. Rich in texture and meaning, the works encourage an intimate engagement with the materials and the ideas they embody.
Visitors can also gain deeper insight into the exhibition during an artist talk with Suzan Kostanich on Sunday 11 October at 2pm, where she will discuss the concepts, materials and creative processes behind the works on display.
