South Taranaki Business Park Reaches New Milestones
Work on the South Taranaki Business Park continues to advance, with major infrastructure works progressing on schedule and attracting interest from both local and national businesses. Earthworks, roading and essential service installations are well underway, creating a high‑quality foundation for what will become a modern, well‑serviced commercial hub for the district.
South Taranaki District Council’s Business Development Manager, Scott Willson, says the development reflects careful planning and a clear, long‑term commitment to supporting local enterprise.
“This development is about creating the right environment for businesses to succeed. Industry told us what they needed, the feasibility work backed it up, and the Business Park is delivering on that evidence. It’s a strategic, future‑focused asset that will support growth for decades to come.”
Supporting Business Success in Hāwera
A key driver behind the Business Park is ensuring South Taranaki businesses have the room, infrastructure and confidence they need to stay, grow and thrive within the district. For many operators, limited industrial and commercial land and infrastructure capacity had posed significant barriers to expansion.
By providing well‑serviced, future‑proofed commercial lots, the Business Park gives homegrown businesses the opportunity to scale up locally, secure long‑term investment, and realise their full potential without needing to relocate elsewhere.
UNO Windows, an aluminium window and door manufacturer based in Hāwera and supplying projects across the North Island, says the Business Park comes at exactly the right time for growing local companies.
Founded in 2006 by Peter Thomas, the family business is now co‑led by his sons Jonathan and Reagan. Jonathan - born and raised in Hāwera - says staying local has always been important to them.
“Hāwera is home for us; it’s well‑located, easy to get around, and a great place to build a business,” he says.
After outgrowing their original 800m² site in Normanby, UNO needed larger, purpose‑built facilities.
“We were quickly running out of space. To keep operating efficiently and plan for the future, we needed a site that could support more machinery, more capacity and growth into new markets,” Jonathan says. “The Business Park provided exactly that opportunity - room to expand while staying in South Taranaki.”
Responding to Proven Demand
The Business Park originated from a comprehensive feasibility study, which confirmed a growing need for suitably zoned land with reliable infrastructure. The study identified the chosen site as the best location, offering strong transport links, expansion capacity and flexibility for a wide range of industrial and commercial uses.
The development aims to:
- Provide a stable foundation for local business growth
- Retain homegrown companies by offering space and infrastructure that meets their needs
- Attract new industries and investment
- Create jobs and support a resilient local economy
- Prepare the district for long‑term industrial and commercial growth
A Strategic Investment in South Taranaki’s Future
The South Taranaki Business Park is more than an infrastructure project; it is a strategic investment in the district’s economic future. By supporting local businesses to grow and stay in the region, while also attracting new investment, the development is positioned to become a cornerstone of South Taranaki’s ongoing prosperity.
