Ōpunakē Water Shutdown
Water Works
This notice is to let you know that we are undertaking some water maintenance work in Ōpunakē between 15 – 17 October (10pm - midnight).
On Wednesday 15 October, between 10pm and midnight the town water supply will be turned off to install a new fire hydrant.
Straight after the hydrant is installed, the town’s pipes will be cleaned (flushed) around 1am.
Flushing the town’s water pipes will be repeated for a couple of hours on Thursday 16 October and Friday 17 October, starting at 10pm. Should flushing not be possible on the above dates, the work will be done on the following evening.
The flushing should not affect the supply although your water may be discoloured for a short period of time while the flushed water runs through the town network. If this is the case, please run your cold tap for ten minutes or until the water is clear. It will pay to check your taps before doing washing.
Though the water (which is chlorinated) might be discoloured, it is safe to drink. We are testing the water daily, however if you have any concerns, you can simply boil your water. If discolouration continues or if you have any questions, please ring the Council toll-free on 0800 111 323.
Flushing is part of the Council’s regular programme to clean the town’s water pipes of fine sediment accumulates in the network over time.
