Kaponga LibraryPlus to Temporarily Move

Kaponga LibraryPlus will be closed for four days while it makes a temporary move to the Kaponga War Memorial Hall Supper Room to enable repairs to be done on the current building.

The LibraryPlus will be closed from Monday 14 July and will reopen in the Kaponga War Memorial Hall Supper Room on Friday 18 July at 1pm. Once the LibraryPlus has finished moving, investigation and repairs will take place to address weather tightness issues.

The current LibraryPlus building has suffered significant water damage from leaks, creating health and safety concerns.

After going out for feedback earlier this year and listening to strong feedback from Kaponga residents, Councillors unanimously agreed to repair the existing LibraryPlus building at its Council meeting in May.

Mayor Phil Nixon acknowledged the community’s strong voice and said the decision reflected the Council’s commitment to listening to its communities and investing in facilities that meet local needs. “It will be great to see if we can make this happen in the space they have asked for,” he said.

South Taranaki District Council Community Services Group Manager Rob Haveswood says that the extent of the damage in the original building is unknown until the internal wall linings have been removed.

“Despite the unknowns, the community can be assured that the LibraryPlus will return to the original building once all necessary repairs have been completed,” he says

“Council are aiming to have work complete and move back to the Library prior to ANZAC day to ensure that the War Memorial Hall and Supper Room are fully available for this important occasion.”
