Entries close soon for Ronald Hugh Morrieson Literary Awards

Get pen to paper - entries for the annual Lysaght-Watt Trust Ronald Hugh Morrieson Literary Awards are closing soon.

“This is one of the biggest events in the region’s literary calendar,” says Council's Senior Community Outreach Librarian Hannah Hancock.

This year’s competition sees Tania Roxborogh judging the short story category, nationally renowned poet Melinda Szymanik judging the poetry section and Daily News Editor Matt Rilkoff returning to judge the research section.

Cash prizes are up for grabs, with the winner of each category winning $500 and the opportunity to see their work published in the finalist book.

“A huge thank you needs to go to our sponsors, the Lysaght Watt Trust and Normanby Lions Club – this wouldn’t be such a fantastic competition without them,” says Hannah. “Entrants need to get their writing in before 11.59pm on Wednesday 20 August– not only will you be in to win cash prizes, but will have the added bonus of being read by big names in the New Zealand literature scene.”
