Keep your Glass Recycling Crate Level this Daylight Savings

With daylight savings here and longer evenings ahead, South Taranaki District Council is reminding residents to Keep It Level when putting out their glass recycling.

More daylight means more BBQs, drinks, and gatherings — and often more glass bottles. We’re asking everyone to be mindful of our solid waste collectors by making sure your blue glass recycling crate isn’t overflowing when you put it out for collection.

South Taranaki District Council Environment and Sustainability Manager Cindy Koen says our collectors lift these crates by hand, and overfilled crates can be a health risk. They also slow down the collection process if glass spills or breaks.

If you have more glass than fits in your crate, here are some easy options:

• Hold onto it until the next collection in two weeks
• Ask a neighbour if they have room in their crate
• Drop it off for free at your local Transfer Station

Please note: Overfilled crates won’t be collected. If your crate is too full, it will be left behind with a tag explaining why.
