South Taranaki District Council is inviting our community to be part of a circular stationery initiative that supports students and reduces waste.
As we near the end of the 2025 school year, Council will have collection points at all LibraryPlus centres and the Hāwera Administration Building from November to collect usable stationery items that are still in good condition. These will be sorted and passed on to local students and schools who need them for school next year.
Environment and Sustainability Manager Cindy Koen is encouraging residents to look through their drawers, desks and cupboards.
“If you have school supplies in good clean condition that you no longer need, we’d love to receive them,” she says. “If you have exercise or art books that are lying around that only have a few pages used, rip them out, and if they’re still in good nick – they’re great to donate!”
“Every item donated will support tamariki and whanau within your local community,” says Cindy. “It also means less going to our landfills and promotes reuse.”
We’re accepting:
• Pens, pencils, highlighters, markers, crayons
• Exercise books, notebooks, art books
• Erasers, rulers, sharpeners, glue sticks, protractors, scissors
• Calculators, headphones
• Book bags
“Every item donated helps a student start the year with the tools they need to learn and succeed,” says Cindy.
Donations can be dropped off from 1 November at any of your local LibraryPlus centres or the Hāwera Administration Building during open hours.
