Northcott Reappointed Deputy Mayor
Pātea Ward Councillor Rob Northcott was reappointed South Taranaki District Deputy Mayor at Thursday’s (23 October) inaugural Council meeting held at Taiporohēnui Marae.
This will be Northcott’s third term as Deputy Mayor after being first appointed in 2019 by then newly elected Mayor Phil Nixon.
Northcott was first elected as a councillor for the Pātea Ward in the 2013 local body elections and more recently chaired the Council’s Policy and Strategy Committee.
Nixon says Northcott is a highly regarded councillor who’s forged an excellent reputation as Deputy Mayor.
“Rob is a collaborative, considered and pragmatic Councillor - well respected and connected with his community and committed to serving the public. I’ve been very fortunate to have his support and look forward to continuing that very effective relationship,” he says.
Other key appointments were finalised on 29 October with Te Hāwera’s top polling Councillor Andy Beccard being appointed chair of Council’s Environment and Hearings Committee, and second highest polling Councillor, Diana Reid as chair of the newly established Water Services Committee. Councillors appointed to the four community boards are Karen Cave (Eltham-Kaponga), Brian Rook (Pātea), Janet Fleming (Taranaki Coastal) and Heather Brokenshire (Te Hāwera).
All up the election saw five new Councillors (Janet Fleming, Karen Cave, Cheryl Luke-Maraki, Garth Weir, Heather Brokenshire) and eight new Community Board Members (Stan Barnett, Glennys Price, Dave Stewart, Charlotte Lawrence, Kirsty Meynell, Lynelle Kuriger, Rachel Werder and Celine Filbee) join sitting elected members.
