Urgent recall: Coloured Kinetic Sand and what to do
SOUTH TARANAKI RESIDENTS - URGENT RECALL: COLOURED KINETIC SAND
The Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment has recalled some coloured sand products after tests found naturally occurring asbestos.
Please Do NOT:
- Do not put these products in any of your kerbside wheelie bins
- Do not take affected product to transfer stations or Council facilities.
What you need to do (schools, care centres or residential):
- Wear gloves and a mask.
- Seal the product container with tape.
- Place it in a heavy-duty plastic bag (or double bag it).
- Store it safely away from children and pets.
- Call Council on 0800 111 323 or email envirosus@stdc.govt.nz before the end of the day on Sunday 23 November. Please provide:
- Your name and contact details
- Your town
- How much product you have
We’ll contact you once a safe collection plan is in place.
There are no Class A asbestos handlers in our District, so we’re arranging an approved collector. Costs will be covered by the Waste Levy Fund (not rates).
