South Taranaki's Parking Control and Traffic Bylaw under review

The South Taranaki District Council is reviewing its Parking Control and Traffic Flow Bylaw and would like your feedback.

The review aims to improve accessibility, safety, and efficiency on South Taranaki roads.

Proposed changes include:

• Introducing an interactive Parking Control Register—an online map showing all parking restrictions and their legal status.
• Clarifying definitions and adding new ones for mobility devices and personal transport devices.
• Adjusting clauses to protect pedestrian access and allow flexibility for special events.

Council’s senior policy advisor Anne Sattler says the changes reflect evolving transport trends, community expectations, and legal requirements under the Land Transport Act (1998) and Local Government Act (2002).

“They also support safe, equitable access to public spaces and better integration with digital tools,” she says.

Public consultation runs from Monday 1 December 2025 to Friday 30 January 2026. Anyone can make a submission on the proposed changes online or by picking up a paper copy at any of the South Taranaki District LibraryPlus centres, or Hāwera Administration Building.

A hearing will be held in February 2026, and the revised Bylaw will be approved in April.
